Looked at S&S in 2003 and they were my second choice to the AF.

Have a 2003 AF 990 and love it, have had zero problems with it.

RE: Articfox 990 for a 97' Ford F250 Heavy-Duty??

My dually weighs in at about 7700 I have weighed the camper and truck in once at 13400 with all tanks full including the truck, I would say the AF990 is a bit heavy for a 250.

RE: 2002 Arctic Fox 1080SL

You might have better luck posting your question on afnash owner site. Not that you won't get an answer maybe just faster.

RE: eTrailer.com

Order one thing took over a month to get, sent confrimation right a way, a week later got and e-mail that it was out of stock when the confrimation had said it was in stock, and took another two weeks to get it. Could have figure out the wiring and wired the Jeep my self in that time!

RE: Large Area Has De-lamination

Call AF and ask them if they are willing to do anything about it. They have fixed a lot of older rigs for different reasons.

RE: Towing a Vehicle

I agree the Pathfinder is not a Jeep and your Idea of using the truck to travel is good IF where you intend to go you can take an F350 Dually there. The truck will not go where the Pathfinder will. In my opinon the trailer is KISS over flat towing. Once the trailer is set up correctly loading and unloading a vehicle takes very little time. Having a smaller 4X4 to tool around is KISS over driving an F350 dualy off road. My long wheel base Jeeps are near the size of the Pathfinder so should be a good rep of weight with trailer that he would have to tow, and works well with the set up I have given as an example. One thing I did not add in the orginal post is that it cost me a 1-2 miles per gallon to tow the Jeep/trailer combo as opposed to the truck/camper with out.

RE: Towing a Vehicle

I have a rig very close to yours. I tow a trailer with a Jeep on it almost everywhere I go. Superhitch with a 28" extension and an Equilzer hitch. Trailer and Jeep (depending on which one I have on the trailer) is around 6500 pounds. I have never had a problem in 5 years. I like the trailer vs flat tow or dolly for a couple of reasons: 1. If I break the Jeep I can take it home to fix 2. the tires on the trailer are a lot cheaper to replace than to ones on the Jeeps so why wear out the Jeep tires just pulling it around 3. I can back up if I need to which is hard to do flat towing or with a dolly.

RE: What size were the super-wide tires the 70s Fords had?

My 1974 F250 came stock with 9.5 X 16.5 all around. The long wheel base F350 from that era came with 12 x 16.5 in the rear I do not know what was on the front for sure but I think it was the 9.5 x 16.5. The older 8 lug bolt pattern is different than the newer fords not sure of which year they changed.

RE: New to RV.NET and in need of some help

If it is just your wife and you, are you sure you need that much room. My wife and I have an AF 990 single full wall slide out, and it is plenty of room for the two of us. Do a lot of looking and think about how you will really use the camper, do you really need that much space, cost of new truck vs using the old truck with a lighter camper, yes we liked the bigger campers but found our 990 to be just fine after 4 years of using it.

RE: Check this out

The 4X4 crowd does that alot, sticking a camper on a goose neck trailer and driving the Jeep up behind it. I have seen a bunch of them hauling that way.

RE: Ever wonder what would happend?

I think just the tire would go flat and that side of axle would drop adding a little strain but I don't think any thing else would happen.

RE: Large Truck Campers and Towing

Tow a 6000lb Jeep and trailer, use a superhitch 28in extension and LD for 4 years no problem ever.

RE: Artic Fox Microwave

Does it have a way to vary power? Try using less power. cut the bacon in half and cook smaller pieces.

RE: I am close to buying a Arctic Fox 990

I have had an AF990 for 4 years and only had one problem that was easily fixed and issues with the norcold frige which isn't AF's fault. I have added some shelves in some of the cabinets, mounted a flat screen TV on a bracket out side the tv cabinet so I can use it for storage. I think AF is as good as any on the makret and better than most. They have had issues (Keep reading the board you will find post) but most of the time they get taken care of without a lot of hassle and most time to the owner's satisfaction. On a DRW I would just try it first and see how you like the ride. I have rancho adjustable shocks and air bags on my truck. I like the shocks but I am not sure I really needed the air bags. I put them on before I got the camper but if I were going to do it agian I would try it with out first. Then get good shocks then air bags if I felt it was needed. Although I do like the air bags for help in leveling the camper sometimes and when driving in a cross wind I can shift the weight to counter act the wind some.

RE: Stabilift VS Traditional Set-ups

Here is a link to more pictures of a stablelift installed on my camper, probably more than you want to see. http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh102/don87401/Camper%20questions/

RE: Home-made Stablift?

With independant feet you might get by with it. With a loop if the jacks don't travel the same speed (which most don't) the others will be pulling or pushing on the different speed jack causing strain. With only 3 jacks it just changes the levelness of the camper. The 3 points rule is why it is so easy to get one foot off the ground when using the 4 jacks and why years ago campers came with just 3 jacks.
